Brookes and Peggy

As usual, its always exciting to have visitors, but I was so excited when Brooke told me she was coming out to visit. I’ve been trying to convince her to start travel nursing ever since I began. Considering how awesome San Diego is, I figured this trip would be a good opportunity. There is so much to do so I really had to brainstorm to figure out what would be the plan. I created a powerpoint slideshow so she could mentally prepare. If I knew enough about this blogging thing I would include it, but i can’t quite figure it out. Anway Here is a lot of what we did.

SURFING

DSC_0006

One of the days we went on a whale watching cruise. We actually saw 6 whale surfacings –very cool. There were hundreds of dolphins as well which were absolutely gorgeous. I’m so glad I went, but would NEVER go again. After we got far enough out to sea, the boat just idled and I tell you what; talk about swaying…..I have never been so seasick in my life!

Sunset Cliffs

Torrey Pines State Park is only about 30 min north of San Diego and is well known for some of its beautiful hiking trails.  We spent one afternoon hiking along the cliffs of the park that overlook the ocean…soooo pretty

La Jolla

Dinner Dates

of course we know how much we like to eat!

Coronado

I feel like Coronado is a must see if you are in San Diego for more than a couple days. I love how peaceful and charming this little island is. Everything is just slower and more relaxed – I love it

And pretty much every night, we enjoyed a sunset somewhere!

Santa Monica

Meleah and I took a trip to LA for a night since we hadn’t really done the touristy thing yet. We spent the first day in afternoon in Santa Monica. We walked along 3rd street promenade earlier in the evening until it got dark when we walked on the pier. There were tons of street performers along the promenade as well as great shopping!  Of course we made sure to ride the ferris wheel on the pier once it got dark. To bring back childhood memories we went into the arcade and played video games and then got in the photo booth!!

Surf Board

One of my newest and favorite purchases………………..

And a bonus its ECU colors!! I’ve been going out a good bit and getting better and better. The guys at the surf shop where I bought the board offered to give me a free surf lesson. It turned out that the guy who was teaching my was from North Carolina and went to ECU too!! What a small world—I couldn’t believe it!

July 4th!!!!!!!!!!!!

It just so turned out that some of the main fireworks done in San Diego were shot off in the harbor right in front of our condo.  And since we live on the 17th floor, it was the most perfect place to watch. We invited everyone over to grill out and lay by the pool during the day and watch the fireworks at night. It could not have been a more perfect 4th!!!!

We finally ran into our next door neighbor after living beside each other for about a month.  Our balconies are side by side so its hard to believe it took us so long to meet each other. He was very neighborly and immediately offered to show us around and take us out.

He told us that he wrote poetry…….and its actually pretty good. This is a little poem he wrote for us.

“They”

They travel the States with their gritty little style

Never to surrender their awesome Smiles

They attend to their patients with their special little charm

All the while maintaining the smiles of a new born

They can touch your life in so many ways

Turning dark filled times into bright sunny days.

They travel the roads to see the world

Always with the love of a proud father baby girl.

They probably found love at a difficult price

Never asking but always willing and first to sacrifice.

They can capture your attention with a subtle glare

You’ll have to excuse me ladies, you’d make a blind man stare.

So I say to young ladies to whom I’ve just met

I thank you for your special kindness

Because of this I shall never forget.

Vencie Glenn

If you recognize the name its because he used to play in the NFL.. Kinda cool

Del Mar Fair

A couple weeks ago the fair was in town….and I love the fair!! I couldn’t wait to go an get a corndog!!! The South Carolina fair is the best in my opinion, but this one could definitely hold its own.

Really excited about ride tickets………

Homecoming……..

I finally got to go back home for the first time since Christmas.  I had a wedding in Charleston so my parents came down for weekend and I saw a bunch of my old friends. I do have to say there’s no place like home!

However, the trip to get there was pretty miserable and I ended up having a cancelled flight and drove from Atlanta to Charleston through the night with 4 strangers! Fortunately they were all pretty normal…………

IMG_1547

Somehow I didn’t manage to take many pictures while I was at home. I have none with my parents and very few of friends so this is all I got.

GIRLS NIGHT OUT

We’ve met some other travelers since we’ve been in San Diego and they are all really sweet girls and fun to hang out with. Two are from Tennessee and one is from Virginia. So in honor of the South we decided to have a girls night out at this country line dancing bar called InCahoots!

We tried really hard but decided we need to take lessons before we go back.

Hash House A Go Go

This restaurant has some of the best breakfast in San Diego and it comes in the biggest portions!! The picture doesn’t do it justice but the pancake is about a foot and a half in diameter to give you an idea. IMG_1339
